HIGH TOWN DENTAL PRACTICE

Located in the beautiful market town of Bridgnorth, in Shropshire, the practice has been established since 1993 and has continued to grow from strength to strength. We provide both NHS and private dental care, and also work with Denplan to offer monthly payment plans.

We pride ourselves on our ethos in promoting the prevention of dental disease, and our dentists, hygienists and nurses all actively engage in updating their knowledge and skills in order to deliver care in line with most recent guidance.

As well as helping to improve and maintain oral health, we also offer cosmetic treatments, including Invisalign clear braces, to help improve the appearance of your teeth and give you the confidence in your smile that you've always wanted.

ROUTINE EXAMINATIONS

During routine examinations our dentists check more than just your teeth, they also score your gum health, check your mouth’s soft tissues and screen for oral cancer. Even if you have very few or no teeth at all, it is still important to visit the dentist at an appropriate recall period in order for them to screen for signs of oral disease.

By identifying developing problems, such as dental decay and gum disease, early on our dentists can advise on the best treatment and also devise a plan to prevent further problems.

As part of our routine examinations we will periodically recommend the taking of x-rays, in line with FGDP guidance. This early diagnostic tool allows our dentists to closely examine each tooth, as well as monitoring bone levels in the jaw.

PREVENTATIVE TREATMENTS

A good long-term oral health plan needs to include regular:

  • Home care: You should be brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and cleaning in between your teeth at least once a day to maintain your dental health.

  • Dental visits: Your dentist can identify developing problems, such as dental decay and gum disease. Early detection can prevent the need for extensive restorative treatments.

  • Fluoride treatments: Fluoride treatments will help to prevent tooth decay. Any patient at risk of dental decay is a good candidate for fluoride treatment, which can be administered by a dentist in the form of a dental varnish, or prescribed as a high strength fluoride toothpaste.

  • X-rays: This early diagnostic tool allows your dentist to closely examine each tooth and to identify any problems.

  • Fissure sealants: These are applied non-invasively to fill the grooves in the biting surface of teeth which are often difficult to clean and can be prone to decay.

Diet plays a key role in your oral health. Excessive consumption of sugary foods and drinks can have a negative impact on the teeth, damaging the outer tooth structure and leading to cavities. It is advisable to have no more than four “sugar hits” per day in order to limit your risk of developing decay.

We also provide simple, and more complex, mouthguards and splints for patients who grind their teeth. Grinding (or “bruxism” can often occur at night time or during sleep and can wear away dental enamel. Mouthguards can protect the tooth surface from further wear and also often help to alleviate any associated jaw pain. Speak to your dentist for more information and an assessment.
